John Evans Dance & Film
JOHN EVANS is an educator, choreographer, lighting designer, and dance film creator. He received a master’s degree in Dance from The Ohio State University in 1987. He subsequently moved to New York City, performing with the Victoria Marks Performance Company for five years. He has also danced with Colin Conner, Monica Levy, Robin Becker, John Jasperse, and The Pittsburgh Dance Alloy. Evans' choreography has been performed in New York City, regionally and internationally. He has twice been a choreographer and teacher at The Yard. Commissioned works include those for Steele Dance, Thompson & Trammel, James Madison University, University of Maryland, and Hofstra University. His films have been selected for inclusion at the Rice Film Festival and the Istanbul International Dance Film Festival. In the past 25 years, he has choreographed over 45 dances and designed lighting for over 1,000. John has received grants for his choreography from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He is currently an associate professor in the Dance Department at Mason Gross School of the Arts where he has taught since 1995.
